First Day Trip to Fall Bay
by Jess Rogers
The day started with rain pounding down across Swansea and surprisingly, despite this, everyone turned up for the trip. Matt, Chris and I (Jess) drove over to Kings Wall earlier than the group to set a few up top ropes. To our delight the clouds burnt off quickly to leave us in the sun.
Joined by the group we got everyone climbing quickly with those not climbing basking in the sun.
The drama started when we moved down to Devils Truck, which is supposedly a non-tidal crag…
Several top-ropes were set up by Matt, Chris and myself- which were nicely situated towards the end of the platform closest to the large waves (“it’s ok everyone, the platform is non-tidal…”) Bill and Florian were down at the platform when a particularly large wave hit and unfortunately they caught the worst of it but getting wet didn’t distract anyone from pursuing harder climbs. Towards the end of the afternoon as everyone was getting tired, we headed back to the car park. A small breakaway group decided to head off for a short walk towards Worm’s Head whilst the rest of us either headed to a cafe or down onto the beautiful sands of Rhossili Bay.
The day ended after a warming pub meal at Pub on the Pond. Everyone went home happy as Larry with full bellies and looking forward to a good night’s sleep.
