About Swansea University Mountaineering Club
SUMC is a club for Swansea University students who are interested in climbing and mountaineering. Each year it attracts around 100 members from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities who come together and climb with club.
The committee has a vast amount of experience and knowledge to make sure you get the most out of your membership. Complete beginners who have never touched a rope can soon find themselves climbing outside. Climbers who already know what they're doing can borrow club kit and start exploring the masses of crags the Gower has to offer.
Everyone likes a change of scenery, and this is where outdoor climbing really comes into its element. The club has a few weekend trips away to the Peak District and to North Wales, as well as day trips away from the Gower such as Porthcawl and Pembroke. Past trips have also visited Portland, Symonds Yat and Cheddar Gorge. For more information about upcoming trips please see the events page.
Over Easter, the club has a week long trip away often to warmer climates. These have been to Kalymnos, El Chorro, Costa Blanca, Fontainbleu and North Wales. The summer trip is usually to the beautiful coast of Cornwall but has been to the Lake District as well.
In a nutshell, if you enjoy the outdoors, fancy a challenge or want to see the Gower like no other sport, join SUMC!
